good morning again everyone!
yesterday, mom did really well! she walked 5 times, each time further than the one before. mom was able to tolerate clear liquids yesterday ((albeit only a little bit at a time)) and the doctors this morning upgraded her to a full liquid diet. the difference in a full vs. clear liquid diet is that full liquids allows smooth purees ((yogurt, pureed oatmeal, grits, pudding, etc.)) and unclear liquids such as milk.
last night, mom slept really well and feels like a “new woman”. when the team rounded this morning around 6:15am, she was ready to get up and at ’em. i can assure you she was the only one walking the halls this morning circa 6:30am. the pain doctors should be rounding later this morning, but mom’s pain is still very well controlled with her epidural.
mom seems more back to herself today as evidenced by her telling me around 4am that jason and i needed to go home and get some real sleep coupled with a wagging finger. i found just the thing for her this morning and am referring her to this every time she insists, “i’m fine, y’all don’t worry about me!”
some of you have asked about sending cards which we would LOVE. this is a public site ((open domain)) it can be read by anyone who types in the web address so i don’t feel comfortable posting our home address publicly on the site. sadly, you can’t be too careful nowadays. if you’d like our address and to send a card, feel free to email me at: lauren((at))laurensykes.com and i will email you back with our home address.
again, thank you all SO much for your continued faithful prayers, love, and support. a friend waiting with us during her surgery said “i bet God’s ears are burning with all these prayers” and we thank you all so much for continuing to keep that fire burning.
- continued pain control without the need for narcotic pain medications
- diet tolerance
- that mom would not develop a pancreatic fistula (hole). this is the most common post-op complication from the enucleation procedure (69-70%). please pray mom will be in the 30% that doesn’t have this complication
- no other post-operative complications (infection, bleeding, blood clots in legs/lungs)
- and i quote from mom again today, “that God would be glorified through it all!”
. . .keep the comments coming! mom may even feel up to reading through the new ones today on her own.
if she can’t, i assure you we will read them all to her again today.
